Hedge Fund Veteran & Founder of ManhattanCanna Fund
Fred is the investment principal of ManhattanCanna LLC. With an honors MBA degree from The Leonard School of Business at NYU, concentrating in Finance and Economics, Fred has successfully used his unique skill-set in order to generate alpha in the portfolios he has managed over the past 10 years of buy-side derivatives trading. He plans on using these same techniques, as well as his instinct for finding value, in order to generate out-sized returns in the exciting space of Cannabis.
From 2010 to 2013, Fred was a Managing Partner and Co-Head of Investments at VS Capital Partners – a niche FX Relative Value foreign exchange volatility fund. VS Capital Partners was able to produce out-sized returns while managing approximately $180M. Fred’s focus at VS was creating alpha in the Convexity / Skew segment of the implied volatility marketplace.
From 2005 to 2009, Fred was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Elk River Trading. While at Elk River, Fred focused on developing a Relative Value convexity strategy. In 2006, the strategy produced a return of 22%. In 2007, the year of the “Japanese yen carry trade unwind”, the strategy was the major driver behind Elk River’s 300% return. In 2008, the year of the Lehman bankruptcy followed by world-wide financial turmoil, the strategy was the primary influence that netted Elk River a return of just over 75%.
Since exiting the FX hedge fund space in December 2013, Fred has been immersed in the cannabis industry by personally investing more than $500,000 into the space.
